Unmasking the myths of bulk purchasing
Buying and selling wholesale goods is often seen as a kind of â € ~ Get Rich Quick "scheme, where sellers can make enormous profits from very little investment or work. Three months after I started, people just do not understand why things have not gone according to plan! There are four myths in particular that seem to lead to potential sellers astray time and again:
Myth # 1: eBay is the best place to sell their products wholesale.
Now this is particularly popular. As the world's largest marketplace, eBay has made its fair share of millionaires. What we do not hear so often is all the people struggling to make a profit from eBay because 100 other people are selling the products exactly the same – prices more competitive.
This is not a new situation. Supermarkets and large discount stores often run at a loss on some items in order of attract more customers. For small or new sellers, this is a deadly scenario.
The fact is that eBay is simply too competitive in some categories. Electronics, jewelry, designer clothes and computer games are dangerous territory for the new seller. You will have no chance against established sellers who have already had a strong following and very competitive prices.
So what should you do? If your product falls into these or any other category very competitive, I recommend shifting your focus to less competitive markets such as selling through classified newspapers in your local area.
While not reached an audience of the size that online auction sites like eBay provide, buyers that use these alternative means of purchasing goods are 9 out of 10 times more likely to pay much more for the products. Not only that margins can be much higher and also have much less competition to deal with.
It is also a good idea to try using eBay international sites such as www.ebay.co.uk or www.ebay.com.au, as well as other auction sites with less competition such as www.trademe.co.nz and www.ubid.com . I think these sites give consistently higher margins compared to eBay U.S., and the number of buyers is still high.
One of the U.S. benefits eBay however, is that the large amount of competition makes it a great place to pick up cheap land and goods to sell elsewhere! It is not uncommon find the best prices on eBay.
Myth # 2: You can find all the sources of its Wholesale Online.
Internet provides easy access a large number of wholesalers these days, and is a quick way to make initial contacts. However, it is certainly not access to all wholesalers. If you are serious to find the best wholesale prices of their products, then it's worth check out other sources.
Try looking through trade magazines, such News as liquidation and wholesale goods, to name a few. With fewer people competing for action, there is a possibility to find some prices very good hiding in corners!
And another thing, in my experience, building personal relationships with sellers is absolutely essential to achieving the products with better prices. So if you have found your supplier online or in a magazine, make a phone call, initiate an exchange of email, or have regular chats on MSN and get to know them.
The time spent building a relationship not only means you are in a position harder to get better prices, but because you know your supplier, you are more confident that things will go smoothly when you finally order.
Myth # 3: pricing research is unnecessary and occupies too much valuable time.
Whenever I mention this, people always chorus: â € ~ But of course, We know that research is important! "
Then why not spend more time doing then?
The number of people passing research on pricing constantly amazes me. Everyone always agrees that it is important to research prices, but when it comes to this, they seem to think they just â € ~ know "how much items Wholesale Price and the amount of benefits that are likely to make later.
But how can simply â € ~ know "? This information is not given us at birth (Or maybe I'm bad luck!) Prices are in constant flux, and the realization of some decent (and yes, long time) research is essential for a successful business for two important reasons:
-
First, it is important to have a good idea of the average resale price of your item before you start. For a number of popular items (DVDs, electronics and computer games in particular), the profit margins tend to be very low. Despite this, many sellers just see the popularity of the subject and dive head. Overly saturated markets just mean a hell of a lot of work for very little in return. Throw large established vendors in the mix and is almost impossible to compete. But do not know this until the research first! So visit auction sites, read ads and any material you can get in your hands until you have a good idea of exactly what we're going to get.
-
The second reason for research is that its value bias may be totally wrong. People have a tendency to believe that â € ~ wholesale 'automatically means a fifth of the price. This is often totally offline! Some sellers have emailed me in shock when they realize that they really have to spend a significant amount of money on their wholesale inventories. â € ~ always thought that purchasing a container of wholesale plasma TVs only need a few hundred dollars of investment, but more like several thousand people, "lamented a seller recently, â € ~ I'm looking in the wrong place? Well, sorry to make shatter their hopes and dreams, but buying wholesale does not always mean huge profits for very little investment. For some items, such a scenario is possible – but only if you do the research!
Myth # 4: Niche items can be purchased from individual wholesalers.
Find an item niche that nobody else is providing a competitive price is the dream of all vendors. However, if you think you will be able to find a wholesale supplier products for the item with a quick Internet search for the â € ~ handed Guitar necks' then could not be more wrong.
Niche products are hard to find, precisely because they are not wanted by absolutely everybody. Therefore, finding a supplier will have a little work on your behalf as these items usually can not buy individual wholesalers. Instead, you need to contact large wholesalers, or even contact the manufacturer directly.
It will be much more difficult than you think, but if you've done your market research effectively and take the time to find a good provider, then your hard work will pay off.
Until next time!
